Dave Neiwert has blogged about the cover the rise of the Republicans has given extreme right wing ideologies and organizations like white supremacy and the neo-Nazis.
Here are some examples:
White supremacist groups are now putting more effort into outreach by buying billboard space, radio ads, and aggressively leafleting.
Reagan's favorite paper, the Washington Times has a managing editor who is closely associated with white supremacist groups.
Academics on the left are scrutinized closely and have their patriotism routinely questioned, while neo-Confederate apologists for slavery appear to get a free pass from conservative commentators.
Walmart refuses to sell Maxim magazine, Sheryl Crow CD's, Out, and The Advocate because they are "offensive". And yet they did stock "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion", and they continue to sell "The Clansman" which presumably they didn't find offensive.
What's going on here?
