Ode To Al

My ode to Al Gore.  He was right about so many things and he was never appreciated, below is my apology and pledge.
Ode to Al

In the tragic year 2000, quite pivotal
The two main parties appeared as one, how pitiful
Both parties adopted nearly the same issue and cause
which worked to give voters great confusion and pause

The dirty deed of the ill-conceived triangulation
Served to condemn voters with self-imposed strangulation
While Nader, running as 3rd party candidate
Welcomed disaffected victims of the self-serving triangulate

"Earth In The Balance" a book based on environmental science
Was now a lonely orphan, a victim of political science
The Al Gore we thought we once knew
Was mishandled by so-called political gurus

Though the popular vote was still give or take
The electoral vote went to Bush after supreme court debate
We said goodbye to our dear old Al
Bidding farewell, he once more looked like our old pal

Six years later, we find ourselves embroiled
In a worldwide mess that reeks and smells spoiled
And our dear old Al once again in the spotlight
Showed his film at Cannes and encountered an adoring limelight

Too kind and benevolent to say "I told you so"
Our dear old Al just wants people to know
That our planet needs caring and some understanding
Of polar ice caps, fossil fuels, conservation and planning

Free of his handlers, Al Gore is now thriving
To understand his message, his vast audience is striving
We realize our planet needs active, and sound conservation
But Al Gore certainly owes us no such obligation
