Good Luck YK!

Thu Jun 01, 2006 at 06:12:29 AM PDT

I was a bit cranky this morning and thought about writing an "Enough with the YearlyKos Already!" diary.  I paused.  I inspected my navel.  I read some comments in the recommended and recent diaries.  And then I flipped 180 degrees.
You see, it is with great disapointment that I will not be attending YearlyKos this year.  I am absolutely green with envy.  That may in fact be one of the 7 deadly sins, but hey, I'm human.  So I'm totally bumming about not going, and more than a bit jealous.  My guess is that there are a great many posters, diarists, and lurkers that are feeling the same way.  Even the evil right pundits are like Malkin and Rush are talking about it.  Shit, It's going to be HUGE!

Every stinkin' day we are mocked by new announcements of great guest speakers.  Terrific panels are set up, that we will not see.  Shit, kos even floated rumors of some fantastic parties that will be thrown.  ENOUGH already!  We know how great it will be.

I have many good reasons for not going.  We are broke (thanks George).  I have three boys between 1 and 8 years old that I already spend enough time away from.  Lack of vacation time.  Enrolled in a short summer course.  Vegas is 1,950 miles away.  My wife would NEVER let me go to Vegas alone (yet she has no desire to ever go?).

Did you go to your high school prom?  Well I didn't, and unfortunately this feels the same way.  It sucks.  All the cool kids are renting tuxes, getting your hair done, and climbing into limo's.  Me, dejected, left out, I say "I didn't want to go to any stupid prom anyway", but we all know how silly and fake that sentiment is.

So I am left with this decision.  Do I act like a teenager and throw a tantrum, or do I act like an adult, and accept this as a great netroots opportunity?

As much as I will miss meeting all of my favorite writers (in no paticular order, and lots that I left out):

Markos
Georgia
Darksyde
Dood
Hunter
Kid Oakland
BIPM
MSOC
Armando
Page
mcjoan
Susan
all the Brians

Along with some of the greatest Democratic politicians.

So here goes.  (Deep Breath)

Good luck people, and have some serious fun.  Keep us posted on the goings on.  I hope you all arrive and return safely, and CRASH THAT FUCKING GATE!
