California Primary: My plea for post election UNITY

Okay, so like to quote Cher Horowitz (the heroine in Clueless), I am totally buggin here.  Seriously, maybe it's because I'm still young and naive (despite my desperate attempts to harden myself) but I was really hopeful that this election season, we'd have a change in politics.  I almost had this really positive dream.  Arnold would decide that he wouldn't run for reelection and that there would be some really good candidates, Democrats, Republicans, and Independents who would run and for the first time in a generation we'd have this great campaign.  There would be new policy proposals, exciting new ideas, record turnout of people excited to vote, and the future of California would be bright.  

Boy, what the fuck was I thinking (or on at the time)?  Nope, couldn't have that.  Instead we have hit rock bottom.  At least in the primary campaign.  Arnold Gropenfuhrer, an awful governor, is planning to spend 120 million to win reelection.  This will be a blitzkrieg of all proportions and make us all wonder two things.

1.  Why won't Arnold get off our television set?

2.  Couldn't all this money feed all the starving children or at least house all the downtown LA bums and make downtown a more desirable place to live?

Well anyway, I'm still undecided.  I have receives zero door knockers, phone calls, or robo calls from either campaign.  All I've seen are mountains of really stupid ads for both candidates.  Now you know for a while there, I was really begginning to lean towards Steve Westly.  But then Westly started running those AWFUL ads.  Just plain hideous.  I loved his positive ads but the negative ones are just full of falsehoods and stupidity.  And Angelides responded in kind.  These back and forth ads could be an SNL skit.

"In 1987, Phil Angelides ate a double quarter pounder with cheese at a McDonalds in East Sacramento.  McDonalds has cut down millions of trees just for grazing cattle!  Phil Angelides hates the environment and supported the downing of 10 million trees.  He also eats beef and therefore hates Hindus, Buddists, and vegetarians!"

"Steve Westly went to Stanford.  Last year, Stanford's incoming class was only 3% African American.  Steve Westly hates black people!  Not only that, because he went to Stanford, he wants to burn down Berkley.  He's secretly a Republican!"

Despite the terrible ads, I think there are likeable traits about both candidates.  I have to say, I'm terribly disappointed that the campaign has ended this way.  But we have to remember the greater good.  This campaign has not just been negative but downright stupid.  I mean both campaigns have run false ads and wasted money.  And worst of all, I keep hearing that Antonio Villaraigosa, our liberal latino darling, may have made a secret deal with Arnold to get him reelected in exchange for Los Angeles getting everything it wants from the state.  This is bad for the state and a slap in the face to all the progressives who voted for Antonio.  IWhatever.  

So in conclusion, Arnold sucks.  He's been a horrible governor and even if he was a good governor, I can't stand his voice.  And he's not a good person either, he sexually assaults women and openly praises Hitler.  So I plead for unity among us as Kossacks, Liberals, Californians, and Democrats.  We should not let the stupidity and rock bottom nature of the primary divide us.  After the dust settles, let us all stand together.  The negativity and anger runs high in here but tommorow night, when the votes are tabulated (or really Wednesday at 3 am), I hope we can put aside our differences and work together.  And I don't think I have to plead with folks either.  Do you want another 4 years of....

"Listen to me people, okay I am the governator here.  I am the governor of KalEEfornia and I will not have the people get in my way, the special interests, the gays and the lesbians, the Jews, the blacks, the latinos, the Asians, the liberals, the poor people, the environmentalists, the labor unions, and things of this nature.  I am BAAACK!"
