The Estate Tax vote is tommorrow, and here are some facts and talking points to chew on...

That is worth repeating and putting in all capitol letters because it flies in the face of everything we hear from politicians who claim their anti-estate tax positions are motivated by concern for rural America: ACCORDING TO IRS DATA, ALMOST NO WORKING FARMERS EVER PAY THE ESTATE TAX. One prominent Iowa economist actually searched for families who had lost their farms to estate taxes, but failed to find a single one. When the New York Times wanted to write a real-life feature about a farmer hit by the estate tax, it went to the American Farm Bureau. The newspaper expected the organization to match its fiery rhetoric against the estate tax with hundreds of examples. It was unable to produce even one."

"Repealing thee estate tax would also give a huge chunk of change to about one in five elected officials in Washington, as roughly 100 Members of Congress are multi-millionaires. The president and vice president, who aggressively pushed the proposal, saved their families roughly $6 million and $10 million, respectively."
