MN Statewide DFL Candidates Eating Own: WTF?!

Fri Jul 14, 2006 at 07:44:09 AM PDT

Garnering front page headlines, a personal animosity between fellow statewide DFL candidates erupts into idiocy.

Current Attorney General Mike Hatch is the DFL endorsed candidate for Governor.  Matt Entenza, outgoing minority leader in the State House, is looking to replace him.

Seems one is spying on the other, possibly in retaliation.

While I realize that this, too, shall pass, in the meantime, the tops of the ticket are doing the rest of the DFLers in Minnesota a major disservice.

Matt Entenza tried to clean up the mass after a couple days of denials, after getting caught trying to dig up dirt on Hatch.

State Rep. Matt Entenza publicly apologized Thursday for a probe of Attorney General Mike Hatch that he said went far beyond what he had intended. He reversed two days of adamant denials that a Chicago investigator he hired a year ago was trying to dig up damaging information on fellow DFLer Hatch.

Entenza said he was "horrified" to discover late Thursday afternoon that the opposition research firm Gragert Research had "made a much larger series of public document requests than I requested."

The PI firm used, Gragert Research, admitted as much.  The story also suggests one reason for Entenza's animosity toward Hatch:

A Star Tribune article Wednesday revealed that Hatch found out about the opposition research more than a year ago, confronted Entenza about it and had been encouraging other DFLers to run against Entenza, even within the last few weeks.

So maybe it's just a molehill, but it still looks not the greatest.  I realize this is probably behind the scenes politics gone public, but this seems ridiculous.

I had other comments that I decided to erase.  I doubt this diary will get much attention, but it only takes one rethug to take my angry comments out of context.  And the wankers from powerlane (misspelling deliberate) are also Minnesotans.  Still, I worry a story like this would have legs, or show up in a one-term-is-Pawlenty commercial.

I am being too worried?  Should we MN DFLers tell them to kiss and make up?
