The poll to pick a good VP for Dean continues.
Only two more candidates will be eliminated before we go the condorcet 1v1 votes to determine who truly is the best VP in the eyes of dkos.
Only 7 candidates are left and if one of floridians isn't eliminated in the next two rounds the final poll will feature both Florida Senators.
Last Round Mark Warner and Ed Rendell were eliminated. Previously eliminated candidates are: Bill Clinton, Marcy Kaptur, Jesse Jackson, Jr., Evan Bayh, Patty Murray, Tim Wirth, Gary Hart, John Lewis, Anthony Zinni, Warren Rudman, John Breaux, Max Cleland, Russ Feingold, Sam Nunn, Eliot Spitzer, Andrew Young, Dick Gephardt, Ann Richards, Mary Landrieu, and Dick Durbin.
The candidates:Wes Clark -- Former Supreme Allied Commander of NATO, born in Chicago grew up in Arkansas, planned and led NATO intervention in Kosovo, critical of war, traditional democrat on most domestic issues, wounded in Vietnam, spent last few years in private sector (fun fact: he worked for a company trying to sell powered bikes before running for office)
Bill Richardson -- hispanic, born in CA, catholic, NM governor and former amb to UN and sec of energy, moderate voting record, pro free-trade, lobbied for NAFTA, at DOE offered Monica a job and fired Wen Ho Lee, as gov cut taxes NM unusually high taxes, hasn't seemed interested in nomination (fun facts: drafted as pitcher by Kansas City Athletics in 1967 but elbow fell apart, broke Theodore Roosevelt's world record for most hands shaken in a day)
Bill Nelson -- served 2 years in army, elected to congress in 1978, fierce advocate for the space program (his district included part of the "space coast"), won the most expensive senate race in florida history in 2000, in senate voted against bush tax cut, member of foreign relations and armed services comittees, vice-chairman of DSCC, National Journal rankings are all about %60-70 liberal %20-30 conservative in 2001 and %55 liberal %40 conservative in 2002, voted for Iraq war resolution, has a folksy manner and deep religious belief, (fun fact: traveled to space in columbia just two weeks before chalenger disaster)
Jay Rockefeller -- Senator from WV elected for the first time in 1984, governor from 1976-84, Almost ran for president in 1991 but decided not to, very interested in health care reform, would like a total overhaul of system but knows thats unlikely today, very very tall (6'8?), opposed bush tax cuts fiercely, fortune estimaed at over $200 million, full name John D. Rockefeller IV, fought for steel tariffs and complained about loopholes when they were put in place, vice-chairman of intelligence comitee, voted for Iraq war resolution and against Ashcroft as AG, ratings for 2001 and 2002 vary between %60 and %80 liberal (fun fact: served for three years as president of West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon)
Bob Graham -- Senator and former governor FL, governor from 1978-1986, senator from 1986-present, trademark "work days" are when he takes one day to do a job in florida from construction to grocery bagging, records every detail of life in notebooks (over 2,500 now), hardliner on crime, pro death penalty, for means-testing medicare and reducing cost of living increases in social security, former chairman of intelligence comitee, pushed for action against Iraq and Hizbollah after 911, voted against Iraq war resolution "Because I thought it was too limited, too weak and too timid" and because he thought the war would increase terrorism, voting record is about %60 liberal, presidential candidate but dropped out, won't run for reelection to the senate (fun fact: wears only ties with an outline of Florida)
John Edwards -- Senator North Carolina, elected 1998, former trial lawyer, described as articulate charming and young, three time marathon finisher, considered one of the most effective democrats during impeachment scandal, quite wealthy (sold law practice for $5 million), considered for VP in 2000, ambivalent on free trade, worked unsuccessfuly on healthcare, supported Iraq war resolution, involved in filibuster of Pickering, will not seek reelection to the senate, voting record about %60 liberal, (fun fact: named sexiest politician alive in 2000 by people magazine).
Tom Harkin -- Sen IA and former rep, served in vietnam ferrying planes, suported subsidies to farmers, voted for free trade proposals in 90s with some reluctance, worked to double budget of NIH, involved in americans with disabilities act, opposed 1991 Iraq war but gave supported final version of W's Iraq war resolution, voting record is %80-%90 liberal on most issues
