Here's a different way to try to get a handle on the size of the budget deficits created by George Bush, our first Harvard MBA president, and his toe-the-line republican congress.
If all the assets of the richest 400 people in America were seized, the total would not exceed the deficits the republicans have created from FY 2002 through FY 2005.
That's right, wipe out the Waltons, the Rockefellers, the Scaifes, the Hearsts, the Gettys, the Marriotts and the Hiltons, the Bechtels, the Mars, and don't forget Bill Gates and his Microsoft buddies, Michael Dell, Steve Jobs, H. Ross Perot, Teresa Heinz Kerry, George Soros, Rupert Murdock, Leona Helmsley, Warren Buffet, Jerry Jones, Ted Turner, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, Oprah, the Donald, and a few hundred other billionaires and near-billionaires.
Here are the numbers:
Bush Budget Deficits FY2002-FY2005.......$1,281 Billion
Total wealth of Forbes top 400................$1,002 Billion
National Debt (for reference)..................$8,100 Billion
These numbers reflect what republicans have already done. They don't include things like Social Security privatization, repair of the Alternative Minimum Tax, and costs for military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. And remember, Bush still has three more years to go.
Have a great day :-{)
