A lot of people wondered what Gore was thinking taking a chance endorsing Dean. CW had it:
- Dean wins and he's Sec. of State (or VP or SCOTUS- take your pick).
- Dean loses but runs a good campaign and he inherits the move-on org in 2008.
- He gets to play power-broker -- he w/Dean and Clinton w/Clark.
Gore is a smart guy. One step ahead? What if...
Gore knew Dean would implode.
He knows what they did to him and he knows what they do to anti-establishment candidates.
Its no-lose- because, if Dean got the nomination he would have run a decent campaign (this is gonna be a close one). But...
If Dean fails to get the nomination and falters early, but has enough money and delegates to play broker - and there is no clear alternative (i.e. 4 candidates with 20% each and then the superdelegates)...
Could Gore step in, make a deal with a couple campaigns, get the super-delegates, and get the nomination- all of course with the backing of the Dean people since he endorsed early? Even more-- a Gore/Dean ticket?
If Kerry, Edwards, Dean and Clark are all roughly tied in delegates and the supers holding the balance of power- will they turn to Gore?
