There has been some talk on Kos as of late of starting an actual written news publication. Though I think that this is a worthwhile idea, it does carry with it significant startup costs.
I agree that it would be amazing to maintain an actual news outlet so that we can garner press passes to the Congress and White House (if Gannon can get a pass, then I'm sure many of us can as well). Imagine actually being able to ask all the questions we come up with daily?
Proposal after the fold...
We should create an online news magazine (The Kosmopolitan could be a good title). The workings of the news site is where things get tricky. I would propose to have a small staff of true journalists who would do investigative reporting. The rest of the staff would be "editors" but not in the conventional sense. I envision the "editors" taking content from this blog (and possibly others) and from general online submissions and fashioning them into quality journalistic pieces. In this way we, the blogosphere, would maintain a strong voice in the news presented and would act as the source for such news. I can already picture a story with quotes from Georgia10 and Armando. We could also take choice AP and wire content.
In the traditional sense, the site would look much like any other news site, but the intriguing portion is having so many "citizen reporters." Though I love reading blogs and diaries therein, the mainstream press, and many in the general public, dismiss them as they are not written by actual journalists and are not as clean and professional seeming as news sites.
Our news site would be clean and professional looking, with well written content.
Any ideas, thoughts, comments?
