I missed this when it came out two days ago, but during the debate in OH-02, Republican Jean Schmidt attacked Paul Hackett for not supporting the Iraq War like she did.
On Tuesday evening,
Jean Schmidt and Paul Hackett debated in West Union, OH. Schmidt used a common Rovian tactic, attacking the opponent at their strength. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like it worked in this case:
Hackett, trying to become the first Iraq war veteran elected to Congress, also cited his military service as proof of his values, a theme of Schmidt's remarks.
"Unlike my opponent, I fought the war on terrorism in Iraq," said Hackett, who returned this year from Iraq after a seven-month tour of duty.
When Schmidt criticized Hackett, who opposed the invasion of Iraq, for not standing with President Bush from the start as she did, he replied: "I not only stood with him, I fought for him."
And THAT'S how you punch back. Email this back to John Kerry last summer. I just sent Hackett $50.
