This weekend, a petition was posted to draft Al Gore for President in 2008. There was a strong response. But, beyond signing a petition, what else can be done? From the draft Clark movement in 2004, the answer is clear. Money has to be contributed to the draft Gore fund. It was money (donations to a campaign fund) that persuaded Wes Clark to run for President. Not just money. But money helped to prove to Clark that the support wasn't just ineffable moral support, that people were willing to put their money where their mouths were. Now, it's time for those who support Al Gore to do the same. If $10 million can be raised within the next year, Gore might feel compelled to run. Sure, a few million signatures on petitions wouldn't hurt, but it's the money that proves the strength of our support.
