THE STUPIDIST THING I'VE EVER READ

Sat Aug 26, 2006 at 10:54:18 PM PDT

"Between March 21, 2003, when the first military death was recorded in Iraq, and March 31, 2006, there were 2,321 deaths among American troops in Iraq. Seventy-nine percent were a result of action by hostile forces. Troops spent a total of 592,002 "person-years" in Iraq during this period. The ratio of deaths to person-years, .00392, or 3.92 deaths per 1,000 person-years, is the death rate of military personnel in Iraq."

There's more:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/...

They go smoothly from comparing "person-years" to persons....despicable.

I don't know statistics, but it seems to me that if the same 135,000 people keep going back to Iraq each year, then this number is off a factor of 4, meaning the death rate is more like 10 per 1,000 persons (not "person-years" - clear corporate mentality at work here, as in "man-hours."

Most surprising (to me, since I spend so little time in "right-wing-world") is how many idiots fall for this crap.  (no link, please, no link.)
