Top Comments: Open Thread/Cambridge Edition

Wed Aug 30, 2006 at 08:09:15 PM PDT

Hey everyone.  Sorry for the lateness.  A quick note for the reason behind this:  I got a job.  And I'm currently finalizing my living situation (I found a great place today in Cambridge), so I just got home.  Realizing this, I made sure that tonight's TC would be all open-thread form, in that every one that you, the readers, sent in are what you've got for tonight.  So enjoy them. :)
On another note, this is my last TC thread for a few weeks.  It is by no means a GBCW (as I should be lurking at points), but I've got to get adjusted to this "working life" thing and socialization and all that, so I'm going to be off doing that for a bit.  Hopefully I'll be able to do some more TC diaries starting in October, but for now, this will be good night and good luck.

Also, in honor of Olbermann (I haven't seen Countdown yet, but I've heard good things), the poll's a doozy, so vote away.

Now, onto the comments!!!

MissLaura starts the fun:

jonah in nyc and DavidNYC have good advice for starting local blogs.

Jay Elias, Elise, and others have a thoughtful exchange about the politics of global warming - from last night but I just didn't see it in time to get it into TC then.

In one of the most consistently fabulous threads I've seen here in quite a while, Jay Elias kicks off a particularly fabulous subthread on libertarianism.

besieged by bush sends these:

Timothy J made me laugh out loud with this.

Both KingOneEye and Bearpaw  ood comments reacting to Lieberman's "I'm getting revenge" comment that Kos diaried.

greenskeeper  makes a great (amusing) point

noweasels sends along these ones:

Ammo Hauler had this brilliant and troubling quote in a comment to occams hatchet's must-read diary

Buffalo Girl's perfect reaction to the letter from Earl Holt to ArchPundit, reproduced in its jaw-dropping entirety

TexMex on not being blindsided by the crap

 From bonddad's diary:

ttoddsnyder submits an list of numbers detailing budget surpluses.  An impressive addition to the diary.

robertdfeinman takes a contrarian view that generates good discussion regarding the Democratic economic plan (or lack thereof).

from nyceve's diary:

Big Eddie Calzone tells us this personal tale of the failure of Medicaid and Medicare plans.

From Mayor Rocky Anderson's sublime Salt Lake City Protests the Bush Administration and Congress (If you haven't: go read it.  Go read it now. Be prepared to start cheering loudly.)

irishamerican summed it up for everyone in this
lovely reaction

Two lovely bits of snark from the YearlyKos 2007 announcement diary:

From the FP story regarding Senator Stevens' secret hold:

Black Maned Pensator channels Stevens to explain the problem with posting the budget online

jimasco brings up a very good point regarding the lines of succession.

And finally, one submitted by Boadicaea:

The incomparable BooMan23, in a diary by Seattlealex,  talks framing and the use of the words "bitch seat".

OK, that's what I've found in the wonderful world of topcomments at gmail dot com .  Remember to send your gems in and we'll get them up.

And to all of you, I apologize again for the lateness and good night, and good luck :)
