America for Lieberman

Word has leaked from Connecticut officials that the newly formed 'Connecticut for Lieberman Party,' widely viewed as a vehicle for Joe Lieberman to thrust himself into the 2006 CT Senate general election, has filed a petition to rename itself 'America for Lieberman,' and field a national slate of candidate(s).

After conceding today's Democratic Primary in Connecticut, Lieberman apparently plans to run for the House seats of Rep. Ney from OH and Delay of TX, and the Senate seat of Chaffee-RI, along with his own Senate seat.

According to aides, the Senator does not feel that running for four offices simultaneously will be substantially more difficult than the two races he competed in simultaneously during the 2000 campaign. "He feels that the voters in all districts deserve a choice, the choice to vote for Joe," said one campaign staffer speaking off the record. Now that Republican incumbents have withdrawn or been victims of their own primary challenges in these races, Lieberman will be able to position himself as the outsider/insider/experienced/newcomer/liberal/conservative candidate, consistent with the ideals of the America for Lieberman party, which bills itself as the party of new old traditional progressive conservative liberal ideas.
