War Crimes Waiver affects George Bush PERSONALLY...

Fri Sep 15, 2006 at 09:29:16 AM PDT

Does the current push by the White House to pass detainee legislation that would include a new moral low ground of what is considered war crimes seem like the biggest push and biggest effort the administration has put into anything for a long time?

Well, there is a reason for this. Let's consider the example of the administrations domestic policies, what is the signature domestic issue for George Bush? The issue he has accomplished the most for and still touts in almost every speech where he can work it in? Tax cuts...

What is about the only domestic issue that the government controls that would affect George Bush PERSONALLY? Tax cuts...

Now let's consider foreign policy and security issues. Sure there was 9-11, sure there was a war in Iraq and Afghanistan, sure there was violating the constitution with wireless wire tapping, sure there was torture and "disappearing" people KGB style in the name of "freedom and democracy".

That was all just stuff that happened to other people, none of that affected George Bush personally...

But we have recently seen some former Heads of State getting charged for crimes committed while they were in office (Pinochet for example). This has got to have George Bush thinking, "This could affect ME!".  And when something might affect George Bush PERSONALLY, we can expect a whole different amount of energy to be applied to an issue...

Don't be surprised if there is some give and take on the other parts of these bills, but the War Crimes Waiver will NOT be negotiable for George Bush...

Poll

Does the fact this affects George Bush personally really have this much affect on his judgment??
