Can Leach Be Beaten In Iowa? Call for Help!!

Wed Sep 20, 2006 at 10:15:43 AM PDT

As a native Iowan, it seems to me that Republican Jim Leach is nearly an institution there. I'm not very politically savvy, but my feeling is that he tries to come across as moderate, or center of the road, but in fact he's only moderate when it's not very important. You know the kind.
Dave Loebsack is trying to unseat Leach. This district includes Iowa City, a liberal university town. (I call Berkeley the "Iowa City of the West," having lived in both cities. Heh heh.)

In fact I still live in Iowa City part-time and will be moving there permanently within the year.

I feel silly; I should know this for sure, but I think Iowa redistricted and Leach's district changed and may be more liberal than it was. So maybe now is the time to boot Leach out. (Can anyone confirm this?)

I honestly don't know if Loebsack can beat Leach, but certainly he deserves our support. Please check his site at http://www.loebsackforcongress.org/ and if you can donate money, please do so!!

It goes without saying, Loebsack will be better for Iowa and the United States than Leach has been. Here are a few quotes from Dave's web site:

A thorough investigation of the circumstances leading up to the invasion needs to be conducted and therefore I support the Barbara Lee Resolution of Inquiry into the pre-war intelligence estimates and the information provided to the American public to justify the war. We must find out how this war was conceived and why it occurred so we will not repeat the mistaken invasion and occupation of Iraq in other countries. We know that an investigation will not happen so long as the Republican Party maintains its control of congress...

We are the richest people on earth and there is simply no excuse for the sad state of health care coverage today.  It's time to work towards truly universal coverage in America.  At a minimum, we need to have a serious national dialogue about how we can get to universal coverage in the coming years.  Numerous alternatives have been put forth in recent years and every option should be on the table, including some form of national health care.  At a time when so many Americans are without any health insurance and when even the largest American corporations cannot compete internationally because of prohibitive health care costs, ALL options must be considered...

Improve Water Quality - Iowans suffer from some of the worst water quality in the Nation; nitrogen runoff from agriculture is polluting our lakes and rivers.  The Republican Congress' solution is weakening clean water standards to save corporate interests money - I think the solution is actually making the water cleaner for our families.  By improving technology and using smarter irrigation we can improve our water quality...

I also believe it is important that we guarantee full civil rights and equality for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people...

Is that convincing enough? Please donate: http://www.loebsackforcongress.org/...
