SF Bay Kossacks: Please help this dog! (It'll be music to your ears.)

Daily Kos, meet Fresca! She's cute.  She's friendly.  She's well-behaved.  

She has no megaphone.  No flight suit.  No image consultants.  No focus-tested speeches--no words at all, in fact.  Yet a single bark, just one lick on the face from her could be a gift beyond price...because it probably means she's just saved your life.

And she needs your help.

Yes, our politicians could learn a thing or two from Fresca and her compatriots.  Want to meet a rare breed who got right to work and did what needed to be done after 9/11, after Katrina, after Oklahoma City?  Look no further than the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation!

Specially trained dogs like Fresca will swim treacherous floodwaters, climb tall ladders into burned-out highrises, and dig through mud, snow, rubble, or wreckage to rescue trapped survivors.  They are trained to go into almost any situation and work with single-minded tenacity, regardless of danger.  Some of them give their lives in this service.  Each day, search and rescue dogs earn the sobriquet "Man's Best Friend" when it really counts.  

It takes money to recruit these dogs and their handlers, and to train, deploy, and care for them during and after their service.  The SDF accepts conventional donations--with a sense of humor, no less...

But if you're in the SF Bay area this weekend, I cordially invite you to the Pacific Collegium & Pacific Boychoir 9/11 Memorial Fundraiser in SF and Oakland, featuring the Duruflé Requiem and Finzi's "Dies Natalis" and "Lo, the Full Final Sacrifice".  

All participants are donating their time and talents, and all proceeds will be donated directly to SDF.  It's going to be a great show for a worthy cause--please come give us your ears and your support as we honor the victims of 9/11 and those who worked so hard to save them!  (Click on poster below for details)
