Dr./Sen. Tom Coburn is pushing for the right to keep his medical practice open while serving in the senate. He also wants a rules change to allow this to happen. Dr./Sen. Frist appears ready to support this. If Coburn is allowed to do this, what would stop others from doing just the same? A can of worms, and another potential ethics issue? However, if the rules are not changed by September 30, 2005, Coburn would technically have to give up his senate seat. Wouldn't that be a kick?
Another question: why on earth, if he is so steadfast in keeping his practice open, would Coburn have run for the senate in the first place? What promises were made to insure the rule would be changed in order for him to run? Also, it is truly too bad Coburn beat Carson--Carson at least appeared to really really want the job....does Coburn?
Finally, after over five months, Dr./Sen. Coburn finally gets a Web site-congrats Dr./Sen. Coburn for being the last doctor/senator out of the gate!
