Kos writes, "People want to know what to do. Be patient -- there are people out there getting the list of 440 voters updated, with contact info, etc. Those guys are about to get flooded".
I am one of those people out there getting the list of 440 voters updated. (Check out http://platform.smartcampaigns.com/DNCMemberState to find the information about different members and let me know any additional information you have).
I have received emails from people claiming that Gov. Dean doesn't want people to start contacting DNC members yet, that we should wait until he decides if he wants the job, or if there is someone in particular he would like us to support. Other emails have said that he doesn't want DNC members flooded for fear of a backlash.
My view is a little bit different than Kos or Dean's. I believe that the Democratic Party needs massive change. Gov. Dean has said that if all you do is vote, you get a `D'. If all you do is sign an online petition saying you would like Gov. Dean to be DNC Chair, well, I don't think that is even a passing grade.
Gov. Dean also said, during the 2004 Democratic Presidential primaries, "The biggest lie people like me tell people like you, is that if you vote for me, I'll solve all your problems. The truth is You have the power."
I believe that this especially applies when it comes to fixing the Democratic Party. Why? Because we are the Democratic Party. The DNC members are our representatives. If we want to fix the party, we need to be more involved. We shouldn't be sending off our email or fax. We need to be getting into a dialog with DNC members. We need to be getting our friends involved in the party and running for local office.
At the next Democracy for America Meetup in my area, we will be having a DNC member come to talk with us about the Democratic Party and what people in Meetups can do to help.
Please, do what you can to bring energized grassroots activists into the Democratic Party and help with the revitalizaion.
