This schiavo matter may be the straw that finally breaks the back of the loose ties holding together the republican party.
On one side there are the Dobson freaks who will do anything, including thumbing their nose at democracy and the constitution to impose their dictatorial religious assertions. With a straight face they can pretend that a midnight vote by Tom Delay can overrule the judiciary in this country.
These are not real conservatives. They are religious fanatics pretending to be conservatives.
Then there is the Christine Todd Whitman factions. They want hands off government, balanced budgets, ethics, etc. This is what you'd expect from republicans of the past.
The issue is, the real Republicans are going to lose this battle to the fanatics. How can we get these people to become democrats?
My advice is to use this case as an example (after it cools off) of GOP overreaching and not acting conservative, and having no ethics or respect for the constitution. The party of Tom Delay and James Dobson.
Democrats these days do stand for states rights, individual rights, and less government intrusion than republicans and we have the facts to back us up. Maybe we can woo alot of these disaffected conservatives? Maybe the Schiavo case ignites the inevitable GOP civil war and we can pick up the people cast out. I sure hope so.
