I figured I'd take a moment to step away from politics for a moment and offer the following thought: I don't think folks stop to appreciate the awful majesty
Toto gave us in one line from its song
"Africa":
I know that I must do what's right as sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti.
First, it's trite. He knows he must do what's right. Nice and original, certainly, but that's not all. He's sure about it. Now what's the surest thing you can think of? Right. Kilimanjaro.
What is the best metaphor for Kilimanjaro? Another mountain, clearly.
So we have two really poorly chosen metaphors in a row. Then there is the added benefit that Olympus is jammed into the lyric in such a way as to create a bit of confusion as to whether Olympus has been moved to the Serengeti or whether we're back to talking about Kilimanjaro.
Just as a bit of icing, the lyric doesn't have the right number of syllables for the music. Finally, probably the coup de gras of the whole thing: Kilimanjaro is about 150 miles from the Serengeti, and presumably not even visible from there.
It's a treasure that just keeps on giving.
