John Edwards is becoming the new anti-Hillary

Mon Nov 05, 2007 at 12:38:04 AM PDT

Those of us in the mainstream of the Democratic Party-- the progressives-- are feverishly looking for a way to bring down the front runner.  Hillary's significant lead is the result of her name recognition, financial backing, and Washington insider status.

But it's not insurmountable.

What we need is for one of her progressive challengers to leap out in front.  Someone for all the casual observers and last-minute deciders to coalesce around.  Someone who will convince the pragmatists to switch their votes away from their initial candidate of choice, in hopes of achieving a real progressive victory.

That person will have to be special.  Smart, strong, charismatic, motivated, media-savvy, and capable of staying on the strategic offensive.

That person is clearly John Edwards.

"Senator Clinton is voting like a hawk in Washington, while talking like a dove in Iowa and New Hampshire,"

Edwards castigated Clinton for saying she wanted to "maximize pressure on the Bush administration."

"So the way to do that is to vote yes on a resolution that looks like it was written, literally, by the neocons," Edwards asked.

"I think that our responsibility as presidential candidates is to be in 'tell the truth' mode all the time," Edwards said.

Just a few examples of the hard-hitting soundbytes John Edwards has already given us.

But if drawing clear distinctions, aka "attacking", was all he could do, I might agree with the Clinton supporters who undoubtably feel he is going too negative, and the partisan pundits who predict it will turn off Iowa voters.

No, the Edwards campaign is no house of cards because it is solidly based on relentless optimism, bold leadership, and a mountain of detailed plans for how to right this lurching ship of America.  John Edwards has charted a new course, which will bring us closer than ever to the shining beacon of peace, prosperity, and humanity that our founding fathers originally intended us to be.

He's taking on the mega-corporations, the lobbyists, and the corrupt system in Washington.  He's fighting for every single American.

He's quickly becoming the clear anti-Hillary choice, and I'm loving every minute of it.
