Read Between the Lines with Grandpa Fred

Oh, Grandpa:

Without saying Clinton's name, (former Tennessee senator and GOP presidential candidate Fred Thompson) said -- quote -- "There is no woman on the horizon that ought to be president next year, let's all agree on that."

How clever. He's referring to You-Know-Who, of course. But I'm sure there were plenty of right-wingers in Iowa who took it even a step further.

"Next year!" the backlash-addled males (and some women) exclaim. "There ought never to be a woman president!"

Never? Never, ever?

To back up, here's a news flash from 1993: the right wing detests Hillary Clinton. Every GOP candidate knows they can score easy points by taking shots at her. Those of us who've been politically aware for the last 15 years have heard it all from the likes of Maureen Dowd and Hillary-obsessed Fox News guest douchebag Dick Morris.

So it seems to me that Fred Thompson was attempting more than a taking an easy, perhaps playful kidding-on-the-square jab at Hillary Clinton. Just as the typical GOP candidate often speaks in code about religion and race, Thompson cynically used Senator Clinton to pander to sexist elements of his party's base.

Given his druthers, Grandpa Fred would probably say this to potential caucus-goers:

"Hey, you. What's up, man? These are scary times, huh? Shit. You really think a woman in charge is what we need right now? Get real and vote for me. Don't I look the part?

"Not convinced? OK... well... hey, remember when you were a kid? If a burglar had broken into your house, who would you have wanted to go downstairs and scare him away, your mom or your dad? I thought so. Just keep that in mind. Remember, we're the Republican Party. Bros before hos. Oops, I didn't mean to sound too street there. I mean, you, sir, are your wife's servant leader. Keep that in mind on January 3. The prosecution rests."

I think it's pretty clear Grandpa has a message for not just Clinton, but for women everywhere who dream of becoming the POTUS:

Fred Thompson

Read between the lines.
