Another Michigander (54 now) killed in Iraq. Another week of flags flying half staff half-staff (it's almost every week now). The
Detroit Free Press is reporting this afternoon that 22 year-old Fowlerville native Andrew Kilpela was killed Friday in the line of duty in Iraq. This story, like all the others, is just heartbreaking.
His father, Michael Kilpela, said he used to get frustrated because he thought his son didn't plan for the future, but his perspective has changed.
Andrew Kilpela joined the Marines in 2003 "to prove it to himself and to those who kept telling him that he couldn't do anything," his father said.
Well, he did something, all right. He rose to the rank of Marine Lance Cpl. Andrew Kilpela proved, as have many other, that our best and brightest are fighting and dying in this mess, not the assholes who sent them there. I'm sorry for the rant, but God, when does it end?
