My #14 Anti-War Video

Fri Feb 02, 2007 at 08:58:24 AM PDT

I tried this diary last night, but deleted it right away because YouTube embedding wasn't working yet. Here goes a second try.

I'm not gloating about being ranked #14 on Neil Young's protest videos page. I'm just really happy about it, because putting together a three and a half minute video is a lot of work, at least for me, a rank (or normally unranked) amateur. And I'm happy that the song, written and sung by my baby sister, is being heard.

Here's a screenshot of Neil Young's "Living with War Today" videos page (that's my sister waving, right next to Pink!):

And here's the video:

The idea was to try to match the slow, mournful pace of the song with a mashup of photos and clips, using slow pans and crossfades and uniting everything with the background of a willow reflection the camera seems always to follow downward. Pans are especially byte-intensive, so some of the effect is lost at YouTube resolution.

Consider this a diary that took 4 days of work to complete. Am I going to do another one if the song moves higher on Neil Young's chart? You bet!!
