Hi all- I used to be a teacher, I was never a mom or dad though I know lots of you are...
and today amid all the grief and tragedy I was thinking about all the scared kids, and families now evacuated to the astrodome.
All those families with all the stress and grief, and all the kids not really understanding what is going on... lost their toys, their favorite things...
All the parents trying to deal and still need to care for and entertain their kids, keep them occupied, even for a little while.
What I decided was that I want to send enough coloring books for the little kids, word find books, mazes etc. for the older kids to the astro dome.
I am working out a way to do it en masse so we can make sure enough gets there so no child needs to be disappointed...
I need a contact in the red cross that can give a count on the number of children, say under the age of 12. and I think I will try to start something on an online book storesite amazon and others, to get the process going. These kinds of books and crayons are cheap, but we are talking about thousands.
would anyone like to help me?
please send me a mail when the time comes also help me get the word out to DA everyone, and folks back home. lauren.shannon@gmail.com
more details coming soon. I hope to figure out how to do this by tomorrow. I am also going to write crayola... (I am from pa. where the crayola factory and company were founded) see if we can get them to donate some stuff as well...
What are your thoughts?
