Many people on this board are so wrong about political strategy that it frightens me, so I've decided to repost this as a diary topic. The South can be vulnerable because not only of Bush's weakness, but also because of the appeal of a Democratic Candidate like Wes Clark (He's a southerner and a general (ret.) remember.) And this "we don't need the south" line is comical. Sure, we COULD win without the south, but if you're going in to this election writing off the South and thus allowing Bush to focus the full force of his $250,000,000 on the Midwestern and other swing states that Gore barely won with a candidate perceived as inexperienced on defense in the first election after September the 11th, then you're setting our party up for yet another landslide. It is like we're turning into the pre-Arnold California Republican Party. Sad.
