Not having Air America on any stations here in Texas (and not holding my breath waiting for it to arrive), I usually sample O'Reilly and Rush during my lunch hour. I figure it's as good a way as any to find out the right-wing talking points for today.
I usually find it amazing that they're often not only both talking about the same things, they're frequently using close to the exact same words. Today, both O'Reilly and Rush's stand-in (not sure who) were discussing with alarm the record gas prices that have befallen our fair God-fearing nation.
I suppose it goes without saying that they both see this as a reason - nay, a mandate - to drill for oil in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge. Not only that, but they both took special pains to mention that environmental concerns were silly; after all, the Alaska oil pipeline has actually helped the caribou population!
That's right. I'm sure most people have heard this before, but apparently areas around the pipeline are warmer than others, which encourage caribou to meet in those areas. And it also makes them want to have sex (a "Caribou singles bar," as O'Reilly see it). Thus, the caribou ought to be thanking us for installing a pipeline in the middle of their habitat.
I guess this explains why Bush is "concerned" about OPEC's oil cut, but according to CNN, he's not concerned enough to actually ask OPEC to play ball. No doubt that BushCo sees this as an opportunity to try to cram ANWR drilling down our throats again, thus the propaganda coordination today.
It reminds me of a scene in Braveheart. The king has sent Princess Isabelle to meet with Wallace personally. The idea is that she can be used as bait to buy Wallace off or lure him into a trap. When someone objects that she may be killed, the king reasons that the French may then become an ally against Wallace as well. As he explains to his son, "You see? As king, you must find the good in any situation."
Such is Bush. There's no problem that he won't use to justify his own ends.
