Pets Die!  Poisonous fertilizer used on Wheat from Asia

Many may recognize me as a "military mom".  I went thru a tough time when my SSG son was in Afghanistan last year and the Cheney/Bushco corporate corruption/crimes that my son, his troops and the Afghanis experienced from our chickenhawk, lying administration.  Most of my previous diaries relate those experiences but this one is totally different.  This one involves the horrifying death of our beloved 6 lb., 20 month old Chihuahua, "Molly Moo".

April, 2005 was a bad month for me.  I had to put-down our 14 year old Yorkie-Chihuahua,(Chip) after his sister (Dale) had died 6 months earlier.   My middle child, National Guardman, was deploying to Afghanistan for a year.   My oldest child (daughter) had been away for years, graduated from Miami, attending Florida, in medical school now. (The National Guardsman had come home from Gainesville)  My baby son was at FSU. (a senior now)  I was becoming empty nested and grieving my missing shadow of 14 years, the "Chipper" of Chip and Dale.   After 5 days of crying, I saw an ad in our local paper, Purebreed, 2 and 1/2 lb, doublecoated, cowprint chihuahua, 10 weeks old.  That was the "Molly Moo".  The cutest and smartest pup I ever had.  One problem, my kids and I thought that she needed a buddy (like the Chip and Dale)  so I looked in the St. Pete Times and like a needle-in-the-haystack , her only sibling was advertised for sale in the county North of us. (double coated, cowprint, 5 month male was the beginning clue)  We rescued "Spot" from an abusive home and he played dunce to the "Molly Moo", the Type A instigator.  So many funny stories but let me move on!   Molly Moo died of renal failure before Christmas after a horrifying day at our vets' office. (Extreme vomiting, bloody stools, excessive drinking)  Our vet thought "rat" poison, maybe from a bird/squirrel dropping it in our fenced/doggy-doored yard.  3 days later,  I had "Spot" at the Emergency Hospital at 5:00 a.m. with the same symptoms and we almost lost him too. Luckily he is a very big chihuahua and I put him on homemade broth/rice/chicken for several days before I totally switched his dog food brand.   Even back then, my tin-foil thoughts were blaming their food! ...  One point of this diary is a warning about the ingredients in our animals food but THE MAIN POINT is why in the hell is WHEAT Gluten, with illegal, toxic fertilizers, allowed into our country from Asia?  I grew up on a frigging crop farm in Michigan.  My dad was a director of the Michigan Crop Improvement Program at Michigan State University.  Many smaller farmers have had to go out of business because of the expense of increasing overhead, including safe pesticides, fertilizers, etc. while crop prices have stayed stagnant or declined.   Are we actually going to allow corporations to import foreign "wheat gluten" because it may be cheaper, unregulated and deadly from overseas.  I have to draw the line here, because "Molly Moo" was much more important than any corporations "Profit Sheet".   love, mjd
