In a closed meeting Tuesday, the Senate committee voted to reject a request by Democratic Sen. Jay Rockefeller to preserve what he called "a careful and fact-based review" of all allegations, a process traditionally known as a "criminal trial."
For their part, the criminals are "OK with this approach," a spokesperson said.
In a related note, the Supreme Court ruled that if there were no longer criminal standards for those awaiting trial, all criminals currently serving time must also be freed. Look for America's nearly 1.5 million prison inmates to start hitting the streets by week's end.
In other legislative business, the Senate rubber-stamped the President's warrantless spying program on Americans.
Also in Washington, the White House announced a new plan to house nearly 1.5 million Katrina victims, Democrats, poor people and French visa-holders.
