Chicago Aldermanic Runoff Election Open Thread

Tue Apr 17, 2007 at 06:05:31 PM PDT

Results are coming in for the 12 aldermanic runoff elections in Chicago.  The main overall issue has been support for Mayor Richard M. Daley's veto of the "Big Box" minimum wage ordinance.  The SEIU and other unions have been giving a lot of money and labor in what has been a fairly successful campaign to knock off key aldermen who supported the veto.  Jesse Jackson Jr. has been highest elected official to support the unions' anti_daley efforts.

Results are rolling in at http://www.chicagoelections.com/

Haithcock only got 20% in the general election and it looks like Fioretti has blown her out of the water.  Fioretti had 5 people at my polling place today, Haithcock 0.

Big box turncoat Shirley Coleman is trailing union-backed Thompson.  I might expand on this race, but suffice it to say that a representative quote from Coleman was "some say [Thompson] was a prostitute."  Shirley Coleman is the only member of the clergy in the City Council.
