I Got the News Today: 04/23/2007

Today's News comes on the heels of the Virginia Tech tragedy.  President Bush has ordered flags at half staff, attended memorials and exploited this massacre to its fullest.  In the last two weeks, 38 of our troops have been killed mostly by being blown apart from a bomb, where is the grief?  Where is the outrage?  The outrage is here: Soldier says honor our troops like the VT slain.  How demoralizing this is for them that the CIC - President and our media treats them with such utter disregard and indifference.  I Got the News does not forget to honor them.  We watch the number of casualties grow, with no plan or solemn word of condolence from this depraved President or the depraved Vice President.  The President doesn't even care enough to run the wars he created, he is now looking to source that out to a war czar.  Enough is enough.  Our troops deserve more than this.  For these reasons, Senator Reid is right, the war is lost.  Now let's bring them home.

Today, the Department of Defense announced the names of one Marine killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom and one  soldier killed in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.  According to the Iraq Coalition Casualty Count the number of names released by the DoD is now 3313 and there are 11 more names of the deceased awaiting notification of the next of kin before being publicly released.

DoD Identifies Marine Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Lance Cpl. Jeffery A. Bishop
, 23, of Dickson, Tenn., died April 20 from wounds suffered while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq. Bishop was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

DoD Identifies Army Casualty

From the Tennesseean A former Monterey resident was killed during his second tour in Afghanistan when he stepped on a land mine, according to his family.
The family of Sgt. Alex Van Aalten, 21, of the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division, was notified on Friday of the incident in the Kandahar Region of Afghanistan where he was stationed.

His mother and his father, Ed Van Aalten, now live in Cumberland Cove, Tenn., and his wife, Shana, lives in Sparta, Tenn. They had been married for about two years, his mother said.
Van Aalten's mother said he signed up for the Army after graduating from high school and went to basic training at Fort Benning, Ga. He was then assigned to the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, N.C.
June would have marked his third year in the Army, and two weeks ago, Van Aalten signed up to serve for another six years, his mother said.
"He loved serving his country," she said. "He just was a really good person. He loved being in the Army. "He believed in what he was doing."

Both men were from Tennessee.  Tennessee mourns her loss.  This state need to keep its young, brave and strong alive and healthy.  No more carnage, let's work on peace.

All of the U.S. fatalities can be seen here.  They all had loved ones, families and friends.  The DoD news releases are here.
