I lost my brother on 9/11 and this tragedy is much worse in scope. Luckily, my family had the means to deal with the loss and impact, no problem.
But as you know most of those who are now homeless and literally dying in New Orleans and in MS, are poor and have been abandoned. They not only have been abandoned in the midst of this horror, but we're abandoned long ago by a political system that has continually put the priority of tax cuts as "stimulus" about things like adequately protecting our ports and levees from disaster.
My wife and I have been looking to offer up our guestroom here in Okla. City to some people who are now homeless from the disaster on the Gulf Coast.
I've been pursuing a lot of channels, and I found this emergency organization to be pretty keyed in to matching those in need with people who are offering space. We should have a match by tomorrow. It has been started by people in the Baton Rouge political and business community.
If you can't offer space, you may know friends and family who can. They also need $$ to help get refugees to homestays.
