There is a big difference between cowardice and failure.

In the past couple days, those who are currently disappointed by the latest escapades of our elected representatives have been called a lot of things: idiots, children who just don't understand, and reality deficient just to name a few. But there is one point the 'reality-based' don't seem to understand:
We are not pissed off because the Democrats failed to end the war in four months, we are irate because they don't seem to be even trying.
When we were in the minority, that was used as the excuse for failing to stop the Bush agenda. Although there were methods at our disposal at the time which could have been used, like the filibuster, we elected to 'keep our powder dry'. If we didn't rock the boat too hard, people would grow sick of Bush, put the Democrats back in the majority, and everything would be different.
Well, now we have the majority and everything looks pretty much the same. Secret trade deals. Backing down on campaign finance reform. Meaningless war spending bills which only keep the meat grinder running indefinitely.
If the Democrats put some legislation on Bush's desk which represents the will of the majority of the American people and he vetoes it, change may not be forthcoming but at least people will know you tried. You did your damndest to get those kids home from Iraq in one piece, you tried to change the culture of corruption in Washington, you tried to make sure every American had health care, you tried to make sure every American who was willing to work could put food on the table, get a decent education, and put a roof over their heads. You tried and failed, but it would be clear to most that the blame lies with our petulant, pusillanimous, peabrained, poor excuse for a president, and not with the Democratic party.
And we the people would support you. We would work even harder to elect more Democrats to the next Congress. We would give our sweat, piss, tears, and blood to help you fight the good fight. We would bury the Republican party for generations to come.
But it doesn't look like you are really trying. It looks like the party leadership has been bought and paid for by their corporate donors. It looks like you are playing politics with the lives of our soldiers. It looks like a bunch of lip service that doesn't accomplish a goddamned thing. It looks like cowardice.
And why should we bust our asses for a bunch of cowards?
