David Broder is Pathetic

I was counting the days until the inevitable David Broder column appeared decrying the persecution of Scooter Libby.
Well, it turns out that I didn't have to wait that long at all.
The Dean has really outdid himself in this one. Usually, he's just stupid but this one is mind boggling.

Broder starts off by lauding his "mentor" Judge Walton. Judge Walton has a reputation for not coddling those convicted of crimes in his court.
But as I heard him tell many a defendant who stood before him in the old days, his guiding principle is always to teach a lesson about the consequences of life choices.
I think that's the last thinking sentence Broder managed to compose for this OpEd because this fool of a man then begins his personal descent into journalism hell with some of the most disengenous, twisted crap you could imagine. I mean, I'm used to Broder's ridiculous rantings but his stuff takes the cake.
Broder:
Despite the absence of any underlying crime, Fitzgerald filed charges against Libby for denying to the FBI and the grand jury that he had discussed the Wilson case with reporters
Lying to a grand jury and the FBI and thus, obstructing justice is not a crime? Since when?
Broder:
This whole controversy is a sideshow -- engineered partly by the publicity-seeking former ambassador Joseph Wilson and his wife and heightened by the hunger in parts of Washington to "get" Rove for something or other.
Wilso is publicity seeking? Valerie Wilson is outed as an act of revenge upon her husband, her husband has the temerity to object and he's publicity seeking???
Broder:
Like other special prosecutors before him, Fitzgerald got caught up in the excitement of the case and pursued Libby relentlessly, well beyond the time that was reasonable.
This is laughable. Dry humor from Broder. Who knew?
Broder does conclude with one sentence pointing out that lying to a grand jury is serious business (although Broder never says Scooter lied to the grand jury..just that lying to a grand jury is serious business. Instead, Broder states that perhaps loyalty to BushCo. might have "clouded" Libby's memory.
I can see him typing this out with clenched teeth.
Never let it be said, he's not the level headed journalist. OF course, this is after he demeans and insults Joe Wilson and Patrick Fitzgerald and makes light of the crimes that took place and the damage it not only did to the Wilson family but also to CIA operation Plame was part of. We will never know the cost Plame's outing had on the agents and other individuals involved in that operation.
Broder has left me so damn angry. He should go and work for Fox...that's where his brand of "journalism" belongs.
Update: Big Tent Democrat has a nice rant about Broder. Go visit and take a look.
