update: family planning foreign aid on the hill threatened with veto

Thu Jun 21, 2007 at 02:58:38 PM PDT

UPDATE:  the lowey amendment to provide contraception passed - barely.
the smith amendment denying contraception failed - barely.
bush has threatened to veto the bill and the republicans have sufficient votes to sustain the veto.  what are YOU going to do about it?

at this very moment, the house is debating the smith stupack amendment to the foreign operations pending bill for family planning that would prohibit ANY u.s. aid to be given to a nation that would provide abortion services.

the bill currently before the house is foreign aid spending that would allow organizations to promote methods OTHER than abstinence for the prevention of aids yet the republicans are actively threatening to keep the bill from passing unless a specific amendment prohibiting aid for family planning prohibits ANY monies being used for abortion or any monies for OTHER services be offered that would allow money to be diverted and be used for abortion.

this is obscene. this is beyond outrageous!

if these SAME representatives so strongly hold the sanctity of human life, then WHY are they blocking the withdrawal of our military forces in iraq who are killing MANY human lives as i type?

republican rep. jim jordan is touting the "right to live" - yet where is his outrage over the 100,000+ dead iraqis and the 3500+ dead americans and foreign troops?

these obscene republicans want "abstinence only" and NO family contraceptives to be made available - they are the worst kind of hypocrites!

we need to ALL unite NOW to vote every bastard republican from office in 2008 - i don't care WHO you are angry with - the democrats will NOT leave the women of the world dying in back alleys - they will NOT leave children orphaned until their own cases of hiv progress to full blown aids.

no matter what any cynical thirdpartyite says, there is a significant difference between democrats and republicans... all you need to do is turn on cspan now to see it.

wake up, ALL of you - if we do NOT get the republicans out of office, not only will america pay a heavy price, so will poor people throughout the entire world suffer!

i suggest we track EACH of these republicans who oppose this aid while claiming the moral right to "protect life" and target THEM for the death and carnage in iraq!

we can start with jeb hensarling who opposes aid to mexico because of their liberalization of abortion rights ... and then go after each and every one of the creeps!

mike pence says this is a "consensus issue" - that most americans feel it is "morally wrong" to take american taxes to pay for abortions overseas - well, let's let him know that most americans do NOT agree with him - force him to prove that statement - quote his sources - link his data - and then we will flood his office with OUR voices - AND votes - for his opponents!
