President Bush has a knack for turning the neocons' pipedreams into reality. When Saddam was in power in Iraq, Bush erroneously claimed that Iraq was a haven for Al Qaeda terrorists. But in the wake of the US invasion and occupation, every Islamic extremist who wants to kill Americans has made a beeline for Iraq.
Ever since Ronald Reagan was president, the Republicans have erroneously claimed that Social Security faces insolvency. It's still a canard, but just give the Bush private-accounts plan half a chance and the GOP might cripple the retirement plan that most Americans depend on. In reality, Bush's plan to "fix Social Security" is a plan that ensures its destruction. After all, the wealthiest Americans have no use for Social Security--and these are the only citizens who Bush represents.
