It's hard to keep up. Laura Bush claimed
minority housing is most vulnerable to natural disaster. Michael Marcavage (484-251-2000), behind his Repent America (1-800-627-2282) affront,
blamed the destruction on individual "sin." Other "Christians" compared Katrina's radar image to the human embryo, extrapolating the same kind of quacky wannabe-God judgements as Marcavage. They've got it all wrong.
Unfortunately for this train of logic, God also smote Trent Lott, as well as hundreds or thousands of other non-minority, right-wing zealots.
Despite all the flooding and suffering, New Orleans was spared Katrina's full wrath. Katrina
virtually wiped Waveland, MS off the map, and parts of Mississippi were
flooded almost six miles inland, causing massive destruction.
The devastation is not limited to race, class, gender, religion, or other persuasion. This was God telling us we are not safer in America, or anywhere in the World for that matter. We are all human; we are all heading for the same fate, and the most we can do while we are alive is hope to ease human suffering and the human condition. Are we doing enough of that? Are they?
