What is Chimera? A search on
Google will not give it to you. A search in the dictionary will not give it to you. Even
HispanicBusiness will not give it to you (though they cover a piece of the story). Yet at the border, and homeland security officials it may be a common term.
Chimera is the code name for the administration's attempt to develop an integrated biometric-based database that would give several Departments including State and Homeland Security instant access to immigration and intelligence information on every alien seeking admission to the United States. The administration is currently seeking a nine member commission to develop Chimera however, the progress remains stalled at the time.
The Chimera system is the brainstorm of the new visa tracking law and is suppose to hold photographs and fingerprints, immigration and law enforcement records on every visa applicant. This system if dubbed with an new proposal that would require Hospitals to report all illegal immigrants would make a very powerful system for officials. Chimera would also tie together IDENT, a data system for criminal/illegal aliens, all visa applicants, and the FBI's criminal database-NCIC.
