Timmerman's APB on Trita Parsi (Iran War Diaries)
Wed Jul 25, 2007 at 02:02:25 PM PDT
This may border on too obscure even by Daily Kos standards, but it's important nevertheless.
Well known neocon and all around batshit crazy, of the "Crazies" fame, Ken Timmerman, is trying to make sure the American people do not get to hear Trita Parsi, the President of the National Iranian American Council.
He's put out an APB on his "Foundation for Democracy in Iran" website "iran.org", trying to put a stop to a congressional hearing that has Parsi as a panelist. The informal hearing is organized by Amnesty international and Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD).
This is still time to prevent this from happening. FDI calls on supporters to call Alex Arriega at Amnesty International, the nominal sponsor of the event. She can be reached at 202-544-0200. Alternately, phone Amnesty' Middle East Advocacy director, Mr. Zahir John Mohammad, at 202-675-8755.
In fact Timmerman and his cronies have been attacking Parsi for months, calling him "The Mullah's Voice." What's the man's crime, you ask?
Parsi is the president of NIAC, the only organization of its kind in America. And he's been outrageous enough to endorse the Iraq Study group's advice and thus advocates diplomacy with Iran.
This is the laughable rap sheet that Timmerman produced on Parsi back in February. Published in the ever credible Front Page Magazine.
His name is Trita Parsi, and he is a protégé of Francis Fukayama, the policy heavy-weight who has now turned against the Bush agenda of promoting freedom in the Middle East as an antidote to terror.
You that liberal anarchist islamofascist Francis Fukayama. Surely he must be "The Mullah's Voice" in Washington, who has "turned against" the Bush's agenda!
And what would a guy like that piss off Timmerman? His own description:
Item number one on the agenda NIAC shares to Tehran’s leaders is to clip the wings of the Bush administration, to prevent a U.S. military attack on Iranian nuclear and missile sites. On Feb. 16, for example, the NIAC website proudly announced that it had joined forces with other left-wing activist groups to buy a full page ad on the back cover of the Congressional Quarterly, "warning against war with Iran."
His crime appears to be that he doesn't want his country nuked by Cheney. Oh the horrors! This is really what's bugging Timmerman. You have an Iranian with support in his community who is not willing to roll over and play Chalabi. That's what's furious about Parsi to Timmerman, and that's exactly why he's gotta be neutralized.
Timmerman, himself of course is a likudnik of Perle/Wolfowitz variety.
A strong supporter of Israel, Timmerman sits on the advisory board of the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs and is listed as a contributor and author by the National Unity Coalition for Israel Publications. 2 Timmerman is also a member of the Committee on the Present Danger, and he has worked closely with Frank Gaffney of the Center for Security Policy.
Just what we need, another self-appointed conservative warmonger with well known ties to the Military Industrial Complex, trying to "democratize" the third world natives.
Do me a favor and call these numbers and let them not to cancel this appearance. Tell them you'd like to hear what Mr. Parsi has to say.
