Congressional Polls; D's Cratering

Tue Aug 21, 2007 at 04:03:54 PM PDT

I was surprised when I didn't see the new Gallop poll up. I guess they aren't a favorite. But regardless of the leanings of the owners of Gallop, the numbers for the Democrats were startling.

I wonder if this will be enough to get them off their duffs. I know they saw that huge lead in the last poll and the consultants probably said " don't worry". Uh Huh.

Here's a few passages from the Poll Results

Only 18% of Americans approve of the job Congress is doing, matching the low point in 30+ years of Gallup tracking congressional approval. The other 18% rating came in 1992, when term limit fever was sweeping the nation. The nine-percentage point drop in Congress' approval rating from last month to this month has come among Democrats and independents, and now Democrats rate the Democratic-controlled Congress similarly to Republicans.

Oh Ouch - That hurts. Lets wait a few days for some confirmation from some polling orginizations that are higher up on the approved list.

But putting a positive spin on it, if the results are confirmed with a few more polls, perhaps the congressional D's might decide this would be a good time to take a stiff drink of Spinal Backer 180 Proof and go out and wax the floor with some R's.

Then again, maybe they really are wussies. We shall soon find out. Poll driven congress? Wussies? Aw shit. That's too nasty. How about they just needed a little motivation.

Job loss can do that.

Lets see what happened here:

The nine-point drop in Congress' job approval rating from last month to this month has come exclusively from Democrats and independents, with Democrats' ratings dropping 11 points (from 32% to 21%) and independents' ratings dropping 13 points (from 30% to 17%). Republicans' 18% approval rating is unchanged from last month.

Ok Time for the Consultants to go home.
