Scientific Breakthrough may save Republicans!

Wed Aug 22, 2007 at 08:29:18 AM PDT

The technology and geek-culture blog Boing-Boing brings us news that's sure to be music to the ears of Administration flunkies and wrong-again pundits everywhere:

Researchers used a protein injection to wipe out a long-term memory in rats. The scientists at Insrael's Weizmann Institute of Science and the State University of New York conditioned the rodents to associate a certain smell with being sick. Then, the injected the rat's brains with a protein, called ZIP, that inactivates an enzyme thought to be essential to the continued storage of long-term memory. Even after a month, the mice showed no memory of the previous conditioning associating the odor with illness.

Can you imagine the practical applications for prolonging the reign of the Republican party if this technology can be commercialized and put in the water supply nationwide?

No WMD's?  Um, we never said that.

Greeted as liberators?  But we were! Don't you remember?

Saddam involved in 9/11?  Nah. Where did you ever get that crazy idea?

Did I say that the next six months would determine the future of Iraq?  You must have me confused with some other Friedman.

I think this particular development might be what it takes to get the Republicans to fund some basic scientific research!
