Seven Mile Wall being built on AZ/Mexico Border

The Bush administration is trying to stem the tide of illegal immigration across the Arizona border, pero, son mensos. Unfortunately, it affects us detrimentally. Read below the fold to see how it affects us here in Baja, AZ.
Seven (yes, seven) miles of wall, along a 389 mile Arizona/Mexico border, are being built near Sasabe, AZ.
Work began today, with no public comment period, even though part of the wall runs through the Buenos Aires Wildlife Refuge.
The wall will allow for small animals to get through, but white tail deer or jaguars are out of luck. The 31.5 million dollar project is being built by Sundt Corporation, a good Republican donor. Sundt gave $2500 to Senator Jon Kyl (R) in 2000, and $7800 in 1996.
A final environmental assessment for the project was issued in July, with a finding of "no significant impact." But the report was issued without publishing a draft or allowing public commentary. snip
Border Patrol officials said Monday they couldn't comment about why there was no public comment period or details of how to handle wildlife or cultural sites.
Border patrol has also recently held hearings on creating a permanent checkpoint near Tubac, AZ., 30 miles north of the border, on I-19, an Interstate highway.
(So, coyotes will drive on the Interstate, knowing there is a permanent checkpoint? ¡Pendejos!)
A community meeting about a permanent checkpoint became contentious when:
At a public meeting Tuesday, two committees made up of residents issued conflicting opinions about the permanent checkpoint.
One committee studying the checkpoint delivered a full endorsement, deeming permanent inspection stations efficient deterrents to illegal immigration and a necessity to prevent terrorism.
Another committee researching alternatives then expressed its total opposition, citing concerns about the effectiveness of permanent checkpoints.
You have no idea, how insulting it is, as a citizen, to be stopped at a checkpoint (that is not an airport) in my own country. And I'm not even brown. When I'm by myself, I'm waved through. When I'm with a Mexican American friend, we're stopped and asked to show papers. This is more evidence that Bushco continues their criminal behavior, even with no political capital. Read here the locally insufficient and pathetic news on these issues.
