Daily Kos

Dennis, Dennis, Dennis. (Miller, not Kucinich)

Sun Aug 05, 2007 at 07:52:36 PM PDT

What happened Cha Chi?  You made erudite observations back in your old SNL days.  I don’t recall you deciding that the Executive branch was off limits to ridicule, nor do I remember you coddling one political party over another.

But yet, here you are again on FOX, helping O'Reilly whine about those mean nasty Democrats who won't do as he says.  This time Dodd is the target.  Dodd sandbagged O'Reilly when he defended his being at YKOS?   O'Really?

And Dennis, you would be lucky to have Dodd as a guest.

It is on Crooks and Liars with a good discussionand here is a youtube:
If the youtube doesn't show for you, here is the link

Since 9/11 especially, you have left your critical eye behind, and appear as a Kool-Aid drinking, frightened, True Believer.

And now you are on the O’Reilly bandwagon to comment on all that hate on left-wing blogs, and that convention where the Democratic candidates are going despite Papa Bear's advice.  A critical person would wonder what set Bill off.  Daily Kos and the other sites have been around for years.  And even a casual glance at the right wings blogs will show less debate and deep discussion of issues, and more hate speech than on Daily Kos, even though Daily Kos has more posters, more diaries and more words written than the most visited right wing blogs combined.  In addition, it is easier to control words on a blog which restricts when people can sign-up, or there is a limited amount of stories that are posted per day.   I will provide example of right wing hate speech if needed, but:

A. I am not into censoring.  Unless the speech would cause the average person to think it was a call to violence, or endorsement of same, I don’t really care and
B. That is not the point of this diary.

Here is the point Dennis.  Our nation is in crisis.  Media is not doing its job.  Without the Internet and C-SPAN, I wouldn’t know a fraction of the goings of government that I do.  And even then, that isn’t much.  I guess it would be more accurate to say that I am aware that I am being lied to more than if there was no Internet.  Where the media fails, the artists try to sneak the truth in.  That should be what you are doing.  You have marketed yourself as not only a comedian, but a satirist.  What kind of lame ass satirist ignores the biggest target in my lifetime.  George Dubya Bush is a satirist’s wet dream.
You should be trying to uncover the bigger truths with the Iraq war, terrorism, the widening of the gap between rich and poor, the fact that the media is corporate controlled, and not living up to its purpose in inform.  ETC....
But you decide to take the easy route.

To go along with the Bush administration.
To not question their motives or competency.
To not rock the boat.

And I cannot for life of me figure it out.  What do you have in common with this retrograde crew and their sycophants?  And can you honestly say you would act the same way if a Democrat were in office on 9/11?  Do you think they are the best we can do?

Does that mean kissing the Democrat‘s feet (or any other part of their anatomy)? HELL NO!  All politicians should get the same critical eye.  All of ‘em.  No sacred cows.  Democracy demands accountability, and comedians have a way of uncovering the truth,

Let me show an example of what you should strive to be.  You’ll never make it because he was one of a kind, but self-improvement is always a good goal.

This is the late Bill Hicks.

 1961 -1994
Everyone has their favorite comedian, and he was mine.  I was in college when he died, and with every great change our country has gone through, I always wish Bill were here to put it all in the proper perspective. Bill Hicks was no water carrier.  Bill Hicks did things that made it very difficult to get the TV jobs that would give him more exposure.  But he was true to himself and what needed to be done.

Let me show you some quotes Dennis.  Keep in mind, they refer to the first George Bush and the first Persian Gulf War.  Yet they still work.:

"Frightening people man. Bush tried to buy votes towards the end of the election. Goes around, you know, selling weapons to everyone, getting that military industrial complex vote happening for him. Sold 160 fighter jets to Korea and then 240 tanks to Kuwait and then goes around making speeches why he should be Commander-in-Chief because, "We still live in a dangerous world."...Thanks to you, you fucker!"

"People often ask me where I stand politically. It's not that I disagree with Bush's economic policy or his foreign policy, it's that I believe...he was a child of Satan here to destroy the planet Earth.    Little to the left."

People say "Iraq had the fourth largest army in the world". Yeah, maybe, but you know what, after the first 3 largest armies, there's a REAL big fucking drop-off. The Hare Krishnas are the 5th largest army in the world, and they've already got all our airports.

Go back to bed, America, your government has figured out how it all transpired. Go back to bed America, your government is in control. Here, here's American Gladiators. Watch this, shut up, go back to bed America, here is American Gladiators, here is 56 channels of it! Watch these pituitary retards bang their fucking skulls together and congratulate you on the living in the land of freedom. Here you go America - you are free to do what well tell you! You are free to do what we tell you!

Trade "American Idol" for "American Gladiators", and spot on.

First of all, this needs to be said: there never was a war. "How can you say that Bill?" Well, a war is when two armies are fighting. So you see, right there, we can all agree. Wasn't exactly a war.

The more things change, etc...

I personally do not believe in burning the flag. It's a personal belief, but I'll tell you something, I think people are overreacting, oh, just a little bit. "Hey buddy, my daddy died for that flag." Well, I bought mine. Sorry. You know they sell them at K-Mart for three bucks, you're in, you're out, brand new flag, no violence was necessary. "Hey buddy, my daddy died in the Korean war for that flag." What a coincidence - my flag was made in Korea!

Here is one squarely aimed at then President Clinton.  The ending may get me in trouble, but it is called SATIRE.

"I knew Billy Clinton became one of the boys, when he bombed Iraq.... He launched twenty-two missiles against Baghdad in retaliation for the alleged assassination attempt on George Bush, which failed. We killed six innocent people launching twenty-two three million-dollar-apiece missiles - um, I think that's overdoing it, if you ask me. I think we should have just embarrassed the Iraqis, and here's how we could have done it: We should have assassinated Bush."

And I leave you with this OT quote:

I can speak for every guy in this room here tonight. Guys, if you could blow yourselves, ladies, you'd be in this room alone right now. Watching an empty stage.

So  Dennis,
How about looking at yourself honestly and realizing your actions hurt, rather than enhance Democracy.  Your way is the easy way, but it is a dead-end.  Right now, your legacy is treating the most damaging administration in US history with kid gloves, and Bordello of Blood. You have failed to live up to your potential.  Can you recover?  That is for you to decide.  It would have to involve eating a tremendous amount of crow, but what is that compared to having an ounce of integrity?   Frankly, I don’t think you’ll have a course correction until all work for your current shtick dries up. But you may prove me wrong.

Don’t you think you can do better?

Please click here for my favorite pic of Bill Hicks.  Would post it, but cannot find out copyright stuff.

If Bill Hicks were still around, he would probably rag on the daily kos as well, but not while on the FOX payroll...
