Draft Gore Action Central! (straw poll WITH Gore)
Mon Sep 24, 2007 at 07:12:05 PM PDT
The time to draft Al Gore is now folks! Do not be discouraged that Al has not yet announced a bid for the Democratic nomination. That is the point of a draft. If we build the organization, get him on the ballots, raise the money and get the word out - Al Gore will run. Ike did. And they didn't even have the internet then.
This is Draft Gore Action Central - broadcasting live from Brooklyn.
Below the fold you will find:
- Draft Gore organization updates
- Immediate action items
- What you can do to Draft Gore
Now is the time to get organized. We need to give Al Gore the incentive to join the race by showing him that he already has in place the organization, the money and the messengers. Join your local organizations or start your own. Start a Gore blog for your state. Diary about creative things your group is doing to promote Draft Gore. Just ACT!
Draft Gore organization updates
[Please comment below with updates on your local Draft Gore organization. Or you can email me at finktank at gmail dot com. I'll add it to the diary.]
National: The motley Draft Gore organizations have joined together to form americaforgore.org. This site is now the hub of the Draft Gore movement and is even getting a little attention. Expect even more from this site soon.
Michigan: Michigan Draft Gore is on the move! See the story here, here and here. Great job with the press releases, guys! Your story is everywhere!
California: On Oct 8, Draft Gore California will begin collecting signatures in every district in this massive state. They need your help.
Massachusetts: The signature drive in Massachusetts got underway last week. Here's how you get updates.
New York: Draft Gore New York is meeting up in Manhattan this weekend. Expect more news out of New York. We only need 5,000 signatures.
Illinois: A Gore event in Chicago on October 17th is getting some attention. A Gore rally is now being planned outside the Hyatt where Gore will be appearing.
Iowa: The Run Al Run rally is a go in Iowa for October 21st.
Immediate action item: Michigan
The biggest priority is Michigan, where our fellow organizers need to raise an ungodly 12,396 by October 23rd. This is a massive challenge facing the Draft Gore movement. As you saw above, they're getting the word out. They're determined to raise the money for a professional petition drive and they are very well organized.

But I hate to be the one to say it in a diary guys: You need an online presence or at least an ActBlue site. With some good promotion and a specific dollar goal, you can accomplish a LOT on the blogosphere.
What you can do
This is the easy part. There's a whole slew of things you can do to help draft Al Gore:
- Visit americaforgore.org and join the linked sites. (Come back to watch the movement grow and join in the planning.)
- Sign up for a local meetup and, if there isn't one, START ONE!
- Write a letter to the editor about why you support Al Gore for President. [If anyone has a good LotE tool, please let me know.] Look what kind of storiesshow up on google news.
- Give Gore the financial incentive by donating to the Draft Gore movement's ActBlue site. They'll turn all that cash over to the big guy once we draft him into the race.
- Blog about Gore: Biographies, voting records, Gore on the issues. Gore in the news. Creative ideas for drafting Gore. There's so much to write about.
- Vote in online polls like this one. Share the ones you find.
- Send Al Gore two cents to give him a taste of the windfall coming his way. Ch-ching!
The Draft Gore movement is gaining momentum. The infrastructure has been coming together over the last couple of weeks. It's time to take the buzz to Draft Gore to the next level and it can't be done without you!

PS - This is a diary for Draft Gore organizing. This is NOT a forum to debate whether Al is running. Please ignore comments trying to steer the conversation into a negative argument.
