I watched the debate between Ned Lamont and Joe this week. As many of you know, it was carried nationally on C-Span and MSNBC. I have to wonder about MSNBC's motives, but I am more concerned that Ned Lamont lost the debate. I hope I am wrong, but I think Ned Lamont lost because Joe made better use of trying to scare voters into thinking that Ned Lamont is either an unknown commodity or worse--a Reagan Democrat.
Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.
What's even sadder is that many establishment Dems (Chuck Schumer, Chris Dodd, Harry Reid and many others) have spun this same lie.
More after the fold...
Right now, I am watching Lanny Davis and Katrina Vanden Heuvel on C-Span. Unfortunately, Lanny Davis gets to call himself a liberal Democrat while proclaiming he is for Joe Lieberman. (I wished Katrina had reminded Lanny that she didn't know too many liberal Democrats who were for John Roberts, or was it Alito?) What get's lost in tranlslation is that Mr. Davis might truly be a liberal democrat, but he's a liberal democrat caught in the culture of corruption. As many have been saying, Lieberman's endorsements from the AFL-CIO or Planned Parenthood speak more to the incumbent protection racket than anything else.
Mr. Lamont needs to respond to the attacks from Chuck Schumer, Harry Reid, Mr. Davis and all the others who say that Joe is a wonderful Democrat by saying loudly and clearly: WE KNOW JOE LIEBERMAN, AND WE DON'T LIKE HIM.
Simultaneously, Mr. Lamont needs to allay any worries about whether or not he will be a loyal Democrat. Mr. Lamont needs to explain that loyal Democrats don't whisper sweet nothings into Bush's ear.
BTW, does anyone know where Ted Kennedy stands in this?
