I went to Coors field today to watch opening day. It was great. It had all the things that I love about baseball; tension, release, ecstacy, agony, elation, fear all wrapped up in a somewhat cloudy, but perfectly warm Monday afternoon. Ideal baseball weather.
The game started out well. The Rockies powered ahead 4-0 with the help of a 3 run homer by Preston Wilson that went into the stands just in front of a bunch of friends of mine. I was sitting in club level seats on the other side of the stadium.
Things see-sawed with the Padres claiming a lead of 10-8 going into the ninth. Fortunately, the Rox held off any further damage - but barely. Then in the bottom of the ninth, bam! bam! bam! bam! The Rockies scored 4 runs to win! Two single runs to tie, and a two run homer to win.
Nearly more fun than humans are allowed was had by all and sundry. I'm glad I went.
