My wife and I threw a little daytona 500 party yesterday with two other couples and their kids. One of my wifes freinds recently remarried a guy who is the epitome of the nascar dad we keep hearing about.Hes a hard working ,hard drinking, dart shooting, nascar watching guy and believe it or not I like him.We have been together socially quite a bit over the last couple of years and I've come to the conclusion that although I don't think I'll ever have the opportunity to post a comment on his diary at kos his views are probably more representitive of of white males age 38-46 yrs. old than mine.
After we watched the race with the volume on explode like he likes it the conversation turned to politics.Although he called me out of the blue three or four weeks ago after seeing Dean on TV to tell me how much he was impressed with him I didn't really know if it was just because he knew how much time and effort I was putting into this cause. The conversation made its way to the gay marriage debate and although the idea did repulse 2 of particapants(nascar guy and italian catholic woman)even they agreed to civil unions and saw the issue could be argued as a civil rights one.The room was 6 for 6 ABB in their views but then nascar dad said he wasn't registered and had never voted in his life.Everyone else is a registered dem.and my first thought was to run up to my office and fill out a voters registation form right there and then but I didn't.I just don't know if this guy can avoid being suckered into voting for W with the 200 million worth of propaganda he is going to see and hear in the next 8 months.
Your thoughts.
