To: Howard Dean, M.D.
Dear Governor Dean,
As your supporters, contributors, and most of all, your "Special Interest," we are writing you to ask you stay in the race all the way to the Democratic Convention, regardless of the outcome in Wisconsin or other states.
For many of us, being part of this campaign to change our country has been a refreshing change from politics as usual. We are Democrats, Independents, and even Republicans. Under this campaign, we have been inspired to place our idealogical differences aside, and unite behind a candidate that appeals to our deepest sense of democracy. What we have created, together with you, is a historic coming together of the American people to declare that we matter once again.
There are several important reasons for you to stay in this race. Our campaign is widely acknowledged as having ignited the Democartic party. We have set the tone for the campaign, and the other candidates have done well by adopting our message. We have set records for the number of participants in the Democratic primaries. We have inspired many new people, particularly young people, to get involved in the political process. We have become a beacon of hope to many Americans, who have turned increasingly cynical in recent years.
Now is not the time to stop. While others will ask you to leave the race, we believe that the only beneficiary of such a move would be George Bush. We still have the opportunity to influence this race, whether we win or lose. We are still the largest grassroots organization standing behind a candidate. We are still driving people to the polls in record numbers.
We urge you to continue this unique movement to bring democracy to the people, and rid the White House of George Bush. We hope you will reconsider your previous statement about leaving the race after Wisconson. You can tell the press we asked you to stay! And we will stick with you all the way to the Democratic National Convention.
Sincerely,
